QFX History
1992-2026 & Beyond
QFX the band was founded in the small town of Hawick on the Scottish Borders by music producer & song writer Kirk Turnbull in Feb of 1992. The Band quickly found a following in the Scottish Dance Music Scene throughout 1992 starting to play live at night clubs and music venues throughout Scotland and the Northeast of England. They found great support from Forth Radio DJ Legend Tom Wilson supporting the band's music on his Stepping Out Show. The Band's following grew very fast and they were soon performing 3 to 4 events a week as the UK Dance scene exploded. The media called it Rave, but this was not accurate since our music was so much more.
At the end of 1992 QFX had their 1st release on Falkirk-based record label DC10 records followed by the Phoebus EP on Shoop Records. Then, in 1993, QFX released The Virtual Reality EP on their own record label Epidemic Records. 1994 would see The Energy EP, which gained massive support from QFX fans. The band's 1st major single release would come in 1995 with the original mix of Freedom, which landed the band just outside the UK Top 40 (at 41) and number 5 in the Scottish Chart.
In April 1995, the band released the critically acclaimed album Freedom, which would go on to be described by the media as "Light years ahead of its time" , Freedom: The Album reached number 5 in the UK Indie Chart. Freedom stayed on that Top 20 list for fourteen weeks. In January 1996, QFX covered the Moby track, "Every Time You Touch Me", which propelled QFX into the UK Singles Chart at number 22 and the Scottish Singles Chart at number 2. This led to an appearance on BBC Television's Top of the Pops alongside Meatloaf . Later in 1996, the band released the original song "You Got The Power" with vocalist Heather Allan , which reached number 33 in the same UK chart and number 7 in the Scottish chart. The band rereleased The Anthem Freedom 2 at the start of 1997, which gave the band it's 3rd UK Top 40 record, reaching number 22 in the UK Top 40 and Number 1 in the Scottish Charts. QFX would be back in the UK Top 40 with their remix of the Italian artist Gala with "Freed From Desire", which reached no.2 in the UK Top 40 in 1997 and would become one of the biggest dance records of all time. 1998 would see the QFX remix of Nakatomi, Children of the Night, which would enter the UK Charts at 47. In 1999, QFX would release the original song "Say You'll Be Mine", which gave QFX their 5th UK Top 40. It would be another 3 years before QFX hit the UK Top 40 again. In 2002 the band would have their 6th UK Top 40 hit with Freedom MOS mix reaching number 36 UK Charts and number 14 in the Scottish Chart. 2002 would also see the band have another UK top 40 with their mix of Nakatomi's Children of the Night being rereleased and going to number 31 in the UK Top 40 giving QFX their 7th UK Top 40 hit.
